I'm down with the flu and a very bad bout of bronchitis,
so I did not have the time and energy to compile the news section
in this issue.
But we have our first "Subscriber in the Spotlight"

agree with it.

myself, I can completely empathize with him.

Hi Priya,
After being laid off 2 years ago, I decided to give
online marketing my full time attention.
It has been THE most frustrating, tiring and exhilarating
time of my life! Working 6 days a week, many days 10-14 hours was
the norm. If you don't think it takes this committment, I have some
land in the Everglades I'd like you to look at...o)
Unfortunately, my wife of 38 years didn't always appreciate
my being at the 'office' over half of the 24 hour day! But she is
a wonderful person with much patience and sometimes even understanding
o)
One of the worst aspects of this home business experience
is that your family and friends don't understand what you do and think
that you are either doing something
a. illegal
b. immoral
c. unethical
d. a total waste of time
e. all of the above.
A cousin said to me recently, "you know I have no
idea what you are doing". I tried to explain that I have an Internet
business to mainly sell digital information products but I'm afraid
his blank look meant he still had no clue. Oh well, that's life.
If you are in this net marketing game, my advice is
to not spend all day and part of the night in the home office. Take
many breaks for exercise, talking with your spouse, kids and maybe
even take Sunday off like I do. That's part of God's commandment anyway
:o)
I neglected exercise and eating properly for many
months and as a result, developed blood clots in my leg and lung that
almost killed me! I have always been an active person, playing tennis
3-4 times/week but there never seemed to be time to exercise, eat
or talk with family or friends. BIG mistake. Don't you make it!
There is nothing like the 5 second commute, reading
your email to see how many new orders came in while you are sleeping
and creating a new advertising campaign. The downside is the strain
on yourself, your family and friendships. There just never seems to
be enough time for them! But make a vow today to stop and smell the
roses and spend some quality and quantity time with those you care
most about. Life is really VERY short.

How To Get Web Copy and Sales Letters
That Pull
by Kevin Nunley
Web site not selling? Did your last ad fail to generate
calls, emails, and customers through the door? The problem is probably
with your copy--the writing that sells your ideas.
It may not be clear or motivating. Customers may get
confused or fail to pay attention. Any of those things can doom your
marketing effort from the start.
Fortunately, it's not hard to turn your copy into
the successful order-pulling machine you hoped it would be. Here are
some tried-and-true strategies that almost always work.
Over the years, writers have found there are certain
ways to begin copy that are more effective than others. These work
just as well for newspaper ads, direct mail letters, email letters
and web sites.
1) State the offer. This is so simple many
people never think of it. Put the offer right at the top of your page
in a headline or bold type. The offer includes the product or service
that is for sale, its price, the terms of the sale, and the guarantee.
2) Announce it! If you have something new,
start your letter with this important information. Nothing gets attention
and builds excitement like the word NEW. I always put it in all capitals
to give it added excitement.
3) Flatter the reader. There is nothing a customer
likes more than to feel as though they are set apart from "the crowd".
Describe the type of person who would probably be one of your best
customers. Tell why the way they feel, work, think, or play is important
and deserves attention. Use the word "YOU" as often as you can.
4) Use a provocative quote. Quote a famous
person or a customer. The quote can arouse curiosity. It should make
the reader want to find out more about your product.
More Ways To Build Sales
Here are more tips that will boost response. Try these
techniques and your copy will be more interesting, better read, and
more effective in getting sales.
Boasting
takes a some skill, but it can dramatically help increase response.
Brag a little. Confidence gets sales. Some of the most successful
entrepreneurs use this method.
A few post their bank statement online. Make sure
after you boast about your abilities you quickly turn the focus to
how you can help the reader.
Address the prospect's common complaint. Anticipate
their objection to your product. Answer the complaint right at the
beginning of your letter. The reader will be hooked!
Make sure you avoid contradictions. Review your copy
for consistency. If a customer reads one thing at the beginning of
your copy, then sees that claim stood on its head later in the copy,
they will doubt your entire argument.
Can't Think of What to Write? Pick a Word
Sometimes the most difficult part of writing is just
getting started. What might help? Pick a word or idea and begin "talking
on paper."
All you need to do is let go and let your thoughts
take youwhere they want to go. It does not really matter where you
start; all that matters is that you start. You can revise your copy
later.
Put your pen on paper and start writing anything that
comes to mind. Don't let your critical voice take over. You're not
allowed to change anything, just write the first thing you think of.
Think of a blind date. It will probably be awkward,
but you will find SOMETHING to talk about. Writing is exactly the
same.
I find once you get started, the words start to help
you. The page will create its own rules, helping you know what to
write next.
Remember--good writing begins with a single word.
If your copy still doesn't work as well as you need
it to, hire a professional writer to polish it. Writers generally
charge a lot less to rework or tweak existing copy that they charge
to write new copy.

Is Duplication a Myth?
Copyright © 2003 Priya Shah
Duplication is one of the most important concepts
in Network Marketing.
It is the network marketer's ultimate dream to develop
a system that can be replicated by anyone with average intelligence,
just by following the exact methods passed on from one generation
to another.
But the fact is that we're all very unique individuals
with very different qualities and talents.
So should we really force ourselves and our downline
to become clones, all mouthing the same scripts, whether we mean it
or not? I don't think so.
In fact I believe its one of the main reasons that
so many people drop out of this business - because the methods used
by their upline do not complement their unique personality and character
traits.
I truly believe that everyone can be a winner - but
not by blindly following in the footsteps of our "mentors." You will
never be successful if you are not comfortable with doing what it
takes.
Here are a few tips that might help to overcome this
problem.
1. Learn the Basic Skills
We all need to go to school to learn the basic skills
necessary to find our rightful place in society.
So
if you intend to do business online, you WILL need to acquire a few
basic skills in internet marketing - using the software you need,
writing ads, designing a simple website, writing articles, publishing
a newsletter.
These are the A-B-Cs of marketing that you MUST learn
if you want to survive online.
As a network marketer, you will also need to develop
a winning attitude and to believe in your own ability to succeed.
But HOW you apply these new-found skills or attitudes
may be completely different from the way your mentor or upline applies
them.
And that's the way it should be.
2. Celebrate Your Uniqueness
Your
personality is a combination of your own life experiences, education
and outlook on life. These are things that can never be duplicated
from person to person.
Instead of being ashamed of your past lifestyle or
failures, share them with your prospects and customers. Get personal
and let them know where you're coming from.
Frank Garon, who makes over $130,000 a year, revels
in being known as a 'former New Jersey truck driver.' Tom 'Big Al'
Schreiter's revelations on his attempts to lose weight get more reader
responses than any other section of his newsletter.
Sharing that bit of their personality helped them
create empathy, an image of them in the minds of others, and made
thousands of people trust them enough to join their business.
3. Be Yourself
Because marketing is all about building relationships,
you should let your personality come through in your communications,
so you can build trust and network with like-minded people.
If you force yourself to become a clone of someone
else, no matter how successful they are, you will always sound insincere
and that will put people off.
People are more likely to do business with someone
they know and trust. Or with someone who forges an emotional bond
with them.
Be sincere, let them know something about you that
they can empathize with and you're on your way to building a relationship.
So throw away those scripts. Or read the best ones
and make them your own. Rewrite them to complement the way you would
normally speak or interact with people.
You can always try to duplicate a system, a script,
or even success. But the only thing that can ever really be duplicated
is "Uniqueness."

THE
LIGHTER SIDE
A dietitian was once addressing a large audience in
Chicago. "The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have
killed most of us sitting here, years ago. Red meat is awful. Vegetables
can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the germs in our drinking
water."
The dietician continued, "But there is one thing that
is the most dangerous of all; and all of us eat it. Can anyone here
tell me what lethal product I'm referring to? You, sir, in the first
row, please give us your idea."
The man lowered his head and said, "Wedding cake?"
