Vitamin Supplements in the Dock
Two reports this month have questioned the benefits of taking
multi-vitamin supplements. A front page story in the The
New York Times, suggested multi-vitamins may not protect
against disease - and may actually promote it. The report, however,
was based on research about fat-soluble vitamins like Vitamin A
that are known to be harmful in excessive doses. Another report
from the UK's Expert Group on Vitamins and Minerals has warned that
taking high
doses of certain vitamins and minerals could cause permanent damage
to your health. Chromium picolinate in food supplements
could cause cancer and high doses of beta-carotene, nicotinic acid,
zinc, manganese and phosphorus could all have irreversible harmful
effects if taken in high doses for long periods of time.

FTC Cracks Down on Bogus SARS Product Internet Marketers
The FTC and the FDA are warning Web site operators against claiming
that that their products will protect against, treat, or even cure
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). They are aware of no scientific
proof for such claims and Web site operators must remove any misleading
or deceptive claims from the Internet. The FTC has issued a consumer
alert entitled "Rx
For Products That Claim To Prevent SARS? A Healthy Dose of Skepticism,"
produced in consultation with the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) and the FDA. Federal authorities advise consumers
to ask themselves - if a medical breakthrough involving SARS has
occurred, would they be hearing about it for the first time through
a sales pitch? (Source: FTC news release, May 9, 2003) Read

Patients Want 'Alternatives,' Insurers Say No
Advocates of alternative and complementary medicine say the practices
reduce the overall cost of healthcare, but some in the insurance
industry aren't buying it. Non-Western health care methods have
increasingly gained favor among patients who have had little success
with traditional health care. (Source: The Business Journal of Milwaukee,

Skin Cancer Risk 'Still Ignored'
Many people fail to protect themselves from the sun even though
they know they may be risking skin cancer, research suggests. Seven

Global Hunt on for Recalled Australian Supplements

Misbranded 'HGH' Supplements Destroyed
Nature's Youth, LLC, of Centerville, Mass., has voluntarily destroyed
approximately $515,000 worth of its misbranded product, "Nature's
Youth hGH." The firm indicated it would change the labeling for
future marketing of the product in order to comply with the law.
The company claimed that an article in the New England Journal of
Medicine (Volume 323:1-6, Number 1, July 5, 1990) provided substantiation
for their claim. However, the New
England Journal of Medicine (Volume 348:777-778, Number
9, February 27, 2003) included a clear statement that such a claim
was misleading. (Source: FDA news release, May 1, 2003) Full

Capturing Leads: The Best Bait
In last time's eBiz Tip, we covered the importance
of using an automated system to follow-up with leads online. (See
Health eBiz Issue 1)
But how do you get your leads to leave their email
address with you so you can follow up with them? What's the best
bait to use for capturing those precious leads?
To know that you have to understand what people
are looking for online.
The answer is - Information.
Or to be more specific - Free Information.
So if you provide people with free information,
you'll get a lot of sales, right? Wrong.
The information you provide has to be RELATED
to your product or opportunity. You can't offer your leads a
free vacation certificate and then expect to sell them health supplements.
Your information must also make them WANT whatever
it is you are selling. You have to be able to remind them time and
again how your product or opportunity will benefit them.
The best way to do this is by offering a free report,
eBook, email course or ezine that requires them to sign-up for your
list and provide their email address at the very least.
1. A Free Report:
This can be a white paper or a slightly long article
on your product. The best person to write this is you, because you
know your product best.
If not, you should research your topic well and
write a report a few pages long.
Jimmy Brown's "Profit
Pulling Reports" is one of the best guides to help you write
your own lead-capturing report.
2. A Free eBook
This can be a selection of articles or a comprehensive
report on a topic related to your product.
For example, if you are selling a weight loss product,
you could put together a collection of free articles - with the
authors' permission, of course - compile it into an eBook and give
it away to your subscribers.
If you need information on how to do this, "The
Genius Guide to eBook Publishing" has everything you need
to write, publish and compile your own money-making eBooks
3. A Free Mini Course
Mini-courses are excellent lead-generators because
they provide information in installments that people can easily
read and digest. They are one of the best ways to capture a lead
because, unlike free eBooks, they are not yet overused.
Also they allow you to contact your prospect repeatedly
providing constant reminders about your product/opportunity.
To write a mini-course, you will need to research
your topic and provide a series of articles, tips or information
in short emails programmed to be sent out at regular intervals by
an autoresponder.
Your information has to be useful to the reader
and not just a bunch of sales letters.
The best part about a mini-course is that it is
completely automated. All you have to do is write it, put it into
an autoresponder system and advertise it.
If you need to learn how to do this, "The
Email Workshops How-To eBook" shows you how to create e-mail
workshops, eCourses and tutorials in just 3 days
4. A Free Ezine
This is one of the best ways of keeping in touch
with your list. It also requires a lot more work than any of the
methods above, because you have to put together a new issue, preferably
with original content, every time you mail your list.
However, an ezine is the best way to 'brand' yourself
and create a long-term relationship with your prospects.
Providing them with useful information on a regular
basis establishes trust and ensures that they will be more willing
to purchase from you in future.
An excellent guide on this topic is Shelly Lowery's
"Ezines
- A Complete Guide to Publishing For Profit." It will show
you how to immediately begin building a massive list of targeted
potential customers, fast.
Tips to remember:
- When building your list always use opt-in leads.
Never send mail to leads that have not opted to join your list.
- Use a double opt-in procedure so you can avoid
spam complaints and keep your list clean.
- Always provide useful, and if possible, original
information. Too many ads or solos and you'll lose your subscribers
and their trust.
Watch this space:
So now the fish are biting. You're getting lots of subscribers
but no sales. Catch this tip in next month's issue when we show
you how to convert more of your subscribers to customers.

Darwin Award Nominee
Named in honor of Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, Darwin
Awards commemorate those who improve our gene pool by removing themselves
from it.
(September 1999, New York) David, a 44-year-old
Mineola man, was so desperate to be rid of his flab that he allowed
his friend to perform liposuction on him in his garage. David died
in this make-shift medical clinic, the victim of lidocaine overdose.
Anyone dumb enough to lie back and take the medical
ministrations of a unlicensed liposuctionist deserves to win a Darwin
for his heedless vanity. The fake physician apologized to the man's
family.

To Be A Champion, Become A Child
Copyright © 2003 Priya
Shah
Have you ever wondered what successful people have
that makes them successful?
Ever wonder how those champion recruiters in your
company manage, month after month, to get the most new recruits,
the biggest bonuses, the largest paychecks?
Well let me tell you a secret. No one starts out
as a Champion. Most of them started out like you and me.
So what is it that makes a Champion different from
the rest?
Champions have an attitude, a mindset that sets
them apart from the rest. But most of these qualities are not exceptional.
Indeed each and every one of us possesses these
qualities when we start out in life. But somewhere along the way
we tend to lose them and diminish our own potential.
To be a champion, you must first become a Child!
Let me explain:
1. Champions are Willing to Learn.
Children come into this world with an innate desire
to learn, to understand the world around them.
They are like sponges observing and absorbing every
fact, every reaction. Because they know that their very survival
depends on it.
One of the most important, and oft-repeated, qualities
we need to succeed in business is a willingness to learn - to be
teachable.
To become a champion, you must be willing to educate
yourself or be educated, to read about, learn and absorb all the
things you need to know, even if they are completely new to you.
If you don't, you are doomed to failure from the
start.
2. Champions are Willing to Act
Have you notice how children completely geared towards
action? As soon as they learn a new skill, they want to put it into
action.
Champions are the same. They put their newly learned
skills to use, taking concrete steps to improve their performance,
so they can take their business to the next level.
They know that they must act on what they have learned,
even if they haven't perfected it. Which brings me to their next
quality.
3. Champions are Not Afraid to Fail
Just as a child picks itself up again and again,
every time it falls while taking its first steps, champions are
not afraid to fall down or fail.
They know that failure is the best teacher. They
learn from their mistakes and keep fine-tuning their methods till
they succeed.
Champions have the courage to fall down and not
be discouraged. They pick themselves up and keep trying.
4. Champions are Willing to Adapt
Darwin got it wrong.
Survival does not happen to the Fittest, but to
the Most Adaptable.
As children, we adapt to long-term change relatively
easily. We are more willing to accept situations and adapt our behaviour
accordingly.
Unfortunately, as we grow older, we become more
rigid in our thinking, unwilling to accept that there may be better
ways of doing things.
In a changing business scenario, resistance to change
makes us obsolete. We end up losing out to players with a better
understanding of changing trends.
Champions are those who can adapt themselves and
their business to changing trends.
5. Champions are Willing to Innovate
Children are extremely inventive beings. They come
into this world with no preconceived notions of doing things. In
their minds there are no limits to what they can do or how they
can do it.
Champions apply these very principles to take their
business to the top.
They not only learn from what has been done before.
They find ways of doing it more efficiently, more cheaply, more
successfully.
As Shiv Khera, motivation coach and author of "You
Can Win" puts it, "Winners don't do different things. They do things
differently."
You don't have to be like a child in all respects to succeed. It's
probably not even desirable.
But if your pre-conceived notions, fears and hesitation
are preventing you from reaching your goals, try looking at the
world through a child's eyes.
At best you will succeed in your endeavors, at worst
you'll remain young at heart.
