This Spiky Green Thing Called 'Aloe'......
By Sigrid Facey
Surely everyone has heard about it by now? I am sure
the great marketing efforts of multinational companies have not been
lost on you. So why is Aloe Vera so good for you?
Well, I've done a bit of internet research - to save
YOU the time, and list below some of the uses various civilizations
have put this plant to, obviously with great success:-
The Nomads of Africa called it 'the Lily of the Desert'
and the African Sutos tribe required all the people of the village to
bathe publicly in an infusion of Aloe when a cold epidemic threatened
(my husband and I have not had a cold over the last 3 years, since we
have been drinking Aloe Vera gel).
Marco Polo observed that the Chinese used Aloe for stomach
ailments, treatment of rashes and other skin disorders.
The Russians called it 'the Elixir of Life'.
Malayans and Jamaicans bind a slab of Aloe pulp to the
forehead to relieve headaches, whereas in the Philippines they use Aloe
pulp with wine to preserve hair (and I must say, our hair is also remarkably
dense and shiny for our - slightly - advanced age!).
In Colombia, childrens' legs and feet are coated with
gel to protect them from insect bites.
It is however in Cuba that they create my favourite
cold remedy from a mixture of Aloe with sugar and rum. This has even
been taken further by Brasilians in RECENT YEARS who use a mixture of
Aloe, Honey and alcohol in an attempt to heal such scourges as Cancer
and Aids.
Is it any wonder that the big companies want to profit
from the illustrous history of such a plant? - Aloe has however been
thoroughly researched in the1930s and it was found to work in two areas:-
- the epithelial layers (the skin inside and outside
the body) - the immune system
The positive 'side effects' are what is partially described
above (there is much more!)
Isn't it nice to know that something you take for your
health has positive instead of negative side effects for a change?
If you wish to find out how more about Aloe Vera and
how to use the highest grade natural Aloe products on the market WITHOUT
having to bludgeon plants to pulp or mutilate your Aloe plant to extract
the gel, see the links below.
